Backup Your Joomla Website

Have you backed up your Joomla website lately? Over the past few weeks we have noticed that a lot of our new clients don’t have any backup procedures in place.

If you’re website gets hacked and you don’t have a proper backup procedure ready then your site may loose all of its data. Most web hosting environments have automated and schedule server backups, which can be relied upon, but what happens when those backups are corrupt?

Drupal Invades Joomla Territory

Drupal Invades JoomlaAt the Sydney Joomla User Group Meeting this April we see Ryan Cross giving the group a presentation on Drupal.

Ryan’s presentation really has given the SJUG a look into Drupal and how it differs from Joomla. Ryan’s presentation looked at some of the new features on Drupal 7 as well as setting up content types and packaging up code to push out to production servers.

Building Forms in Joomla

Lots of FormsBuilding web forms in with PHP or ASP is fairly straight forward. The level of coding required isn’t too complicated and can be done by a fresh web coder. When building forms in Joomla though, you can cut down the time of developing these forms by using some very nifty components that are available.

There are several components out there that can be used to build web forms in Joomla. We’ve been using a couple of different type of form builders over the years and they all come down to preference and the situation that they are being used for.

Google +1 for Joomla

Google +1 logoOn the 28th of March, Google announced a new social recommendations system for the web called “Google +1″. It will work in a similar way to Facebook’s Like button but will appear all over the web including websites, Google search results and Google paid results. This is suppose to change the way users view and use the web and Google services as the more recommendations or +1s a website or search result has the more likely a user will click on the result. Another thing worth noting is that it is only suppose to show +1s from people within your social network.

Will this completely change how we use Google or will it Buzz out like Google Buzz? We’ll find out very soon.

Now I’ve been out of the loop a little bit snowed under with a mountain of Joomla build projects, and a couple of WordPress ones, and during that time, there have been some big changes to the Joomla community here in Australia.

JoomlaDay.org.au has now changes to Joomla.org.au! Wow, and the website has had a little bit of a face lift with a new template applied to the website.
