Stop using IE6

January 19th

Recently Google had been hacked by exploiting security flaws in IE6. We highly recommend that anyone still using IE6 to stop using it. The cost of upgrading to the new operating system or moving to a different browser at least is minimal compared to having your private information stolen.

Further more, the explanation on how to use the hack has been made public and even Microsoft has released statements for users to ditch IE6 and XP and upgrade to Windows 7, even if it is just for the security patches.

Fine Tuning a Joomla Server for High Levels of Traffic

Web Server We’ve recently been managing a website with a very high volume of traffic. Not only are there a huge amount of visitors but also a rather long stay time and usage or resources on the server. We investigated ways of optimizing the server and site to handle these high levels of traffic.

This particular Joomla based site averages roughly, 6000 unique visitors a day with user registering on the site every few minutes to interact with the site’s functions.

So here are a few tips and tricks that can be done to optimise the server environment to help handle the high server loads after you have optimised your instance of Joomla. I must also add that these tweaks are for an Apache based web server. (more…)

Jooomla Security Update 1.5.15 Released

What does this patch cover and why you should upgrade.

The patch blocks two security vulnerabilities that are found in Joomla. They aren’t ones that I have come across before or have seen sites hacked as a result of it but since the vulnerabilities have been identified it is fairly important to upgrade and patch the holes up. (more…)
